Obituary for Barbarann E. Longo

Barbarann E. Longo
Lifetime Lindenhurst resident, Barbarann E. Longo, daughter of Dorothy & John Klein, passed away Wednesday April 29, 2020, with her family by her side, after an 18-year Cancer battle. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Nicholas Longo and her two daughters Nicolette Longo and Milliza Longo-Lewis, her son-in-law Robert Lewis and granddaughter Doriann Lewis.

Barbarann’s love of life was evident in her perpetual involvement with her faith and family. She attended OLPH and graduated from Lindenhurst High School in 1959. After completing courses at Brown’s Business School she worked as a keypunch operator for Grumman. Working side by side with family at Longo’s Pastry Shop for 50 years was also an important accomplishment. Her love of baking and cooking extended into the family and into her volunteer work with Our Lady of Grace Church. Barbara taught religious education and “prayed twice” by singing as an Alto in the Our Lady of Grace adult choir for 44 years. She enjoyed participating in the Our Lady of Grace Community Players, was an accomplished seamstress, crochet artist and fashion designer. She was a Medical Assistant for two pediatricians for many years and worked in Customer Service at Poly-Pak Industries. She assisted with the Girl Scouts and Daniel Street P.T.A. (where she even became president). Her love of children expanded to her many years of service as a classroom aide in West Gates and E.W. Bower Elementary Schools. She lovingly helped to raise her granddaughter, who is the fifth generation of the family here in her childhood home.

Barbara will be remembered as a fun-loving soul who appreciated fishing, crabbing, visiting gardens, theatre, art and celebrating life. She was the strongest, most graceful woman we know, who will be greatly missed, and she touched so many lives in so many positive ways.
