Obituary for Daniel Masterson
Masterson, Daniel (Captain Dan) of Lindenhurst at the age of 89. A long time resident of Lindenhurst, Dan was born in 1932 to Elizabeth (nee Shea) and Walter Masterson in Queens, NY. Beloved Husband of nearly 60 years to Joan M. Masterson (nee Gillespie). Loving Father of Donna Nogid (Jeff), Doreen Masterson, and Dawn Masterson (Ali Demetriou). Cherished Grandfather of Joseph, Paige, Daniel and Garett. Predeceased by 5 siblings, he will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews and their families. Dan was an avid boater who spent summers cruising the shores of Long Island with first mate “Joanie” by his side.
He was a licensed Captain, known as “Captain Dan” having taught boating and navigation to many local boaters in preparation for the United States Coast Guard Captain’s License. He was a founding partner of Masterson Brothers Caterers where he worked for many years alongside his brothers. He later became the Senior Bay Constable in the Town of Babylon where he served for 20 years. In addition, he was a member of United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 1-4 for many years holding many leadership roles including Commander. He was a member of the Amityville Yacht Club and a past member of the Moose Lodge.
