Obituary for Doris DeMondo
Doris E. DeRidder DeMondo, age 86 passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, April 21, 2023 surrounded by her daughters.
Born in New York City January 9, 1937 to the late Arthur and Margaret Wenz. Doris graduated from Seawanhaka High School in 1955 and later that year married her late husband John David DeRidder Jr.
Doris is also predeceased by her sons David Arthur DeRidder, John David DeRidder III, second husband Michael DeMondo, and brother Douglas Wenz.
Doris is survived by her daughter Donna Hayes and husband Steven Schaffer of Alba, Texas, daughter Darlene DeRidder of Hollis, NY, daughter Jill Garland and husband John of Melville, NY, daughter Claudine Mears and husband Michael of Fairfield, CT, grandson Nicholas, Jonathan and William, brother Donald Wenz and wife Joan, niece Christine and nephew Craig.
Doris and John raised their family in Massapequa, NY. After John’s passing in 1978 Doris continued to run the family business in Hempstead, NY until it was sold in the late 1980’s. Doris remained on Long Island but eventually moved to Bethel, NY following her marriage to Michael DeMondo in 1989. Doris and Mike retired to Florida. Doris remained in Florida until the passing of Mike in 2013 and her son John in 2014. Doris returned to the northeast splitting her time among her daughters in New York and Connecticut.
Doris will be remembered by those who knew her as kind, generous, fun spirited and most of all the hardest working women who was dedicated to her children and grandsons.
