Obituary for Elaine Mary "McCauley" Little

Elaine Mary McCauley Little, age 88, of Maynard, passed away peacefully on December 9th, 2023 after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late George Little for 61 years. Born in Laurelton, New York on June 24, 1935, Elaine attended The Mary Louis Academy for Girls in Jamaica, New York. Elaine studied ballet as a child and competed in regional roller-skating events in the dance division. She would often weave into her conversations that members of the Rockettes would take ballet class with her at the studio where she studied.

Elaine was introduced to George by their mutual friend, Marie Schepperle Austin.
George and Elaine quickly became inseparable. Elaine became a member of the “Mentone Crowd”, a group of George and Marie’s friends. The “Mentone Crowd” became second family to our family throughout the years and provided Elaine and George with much camaraderie and support throughout the decades. Elaine married George in 1955 and focused on family, community volunteering and supporting George with his business while raising their children. Elaine was the person who would always drive neighbors to their medical appointments. She volunteered countless hours at her local Catholic Church and the church religious education classes. She loved painting and was quite accomplished at creating a variety of paintings, craft items, and garments. She loved to play Mahjong, often teaching others to play the game.

Elaine is survived by her daughter Suzanne Recane and husband Thomas, son James Little and partner Christine Marr, and daughter Michelle Little and partner Helen Pierce, as well as her granddaughter Emma Recane and wife Peyton Spencer. She is also survived by her nephew Michael Little and wife Patricia, and her niece Elizabeth Portmore and husband Douglas. Her grandnieces and grandnephews are Michael, Chris, Bryan, and Ava.

Family and friends are invited to gather and memorialize Elaine’s life at Lindenhurst Funeral Home on 424 S. Wellwood Avenue, Lindenhurst N.Y. 11757 by joining us in prayer, and shared eulogies (kindly refer to personal page for times).

To honor Elaine’s memory, donations may be sent to The Learning Center for the Deaf, 848 Central Street, Framingham, and M.A. 01701 or online at www.tlcdeaf.org/give.
