Obituary

Elaine Russo nèe Albanese passed away with her husband by her side on July 12, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. NY. Married for 54 years to Eugene (Gene), Elaine and Gene made a life together making memories and driving each other crazy with more love than can be imagined between two people.

The daughter of Italian immigrants, William and Anna, Elaine was a lifelong New Yorker who missed her native Brooklyn dearly. She often spoke of the wonderful memories of The Carrol Street Girls of her youth and sitting on the stoop chatting with neighbors while watching her three children play stick-ball in the street. Elaine had a love of life that cannot be matched, always laughing and joking even through all the challenges she faced in life.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents: William and Anna, siblings: Bill and Frances, and daughter Gina. She will be sorely missed by her remaining three children: Philip (Emma), Gina (Brian) and Glenn (Antonella), her 6 grandchildren: AJ, Ashley, Andrew, Michael, Isabella and Jean, sister Ann (Francis) and countless nieces, nephews and friends.

A viewing will be held Wednesday July 15, with a service during the 7-9pm session.
Elaine will be cremated on Thursday July16 as per her final wishes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in her name to Susan G Komen.

I met the Russo's and the Bresocnik's 13 years ago when I first moved to Shirley in July of 2007. The first time I met Elaine and Gene was when they came to see their grandchildren off to school in September, 2007. We had just moved here that July, and needless to say, I was a wreck having to send my own babies off to a new school. Gina, Elaine's daughter, and who has since become my very best friend, asked me over for coffee after the kids got on the bus. The rest, as they say, is history.

Elaine made me feel like one of her own. She talked about growing up in Brooklyn and ironically enough, her and my dad grew up in the same neighborhood! Small world, isn't it? I remember that morning, sitting at Gina's table and calling my mom on the phone to "compare notes" about the "neighborhood." Over the years, both of our families celebrated Halloween, Christmas, Mother's Day, and countless birthdays together.

Myself, my son, who is now 23, and Elaine used to commiserate and celebrate the New York Mets wins and mostly losses! Elaine would whisper in my ear (in her best "church whisper) about what a hottie Jose Reyes was and what a cutie David Wright was, and she's say – "Don't tell my husband! He'll get so mad!" And naturally Gene heard her and would just roll his eyes and shake his head! Such good times! No one will ever come across two people who were more in love and devoted to one another than Elaine and Gene. Elaine would talk about her siblings and always say – "But I'm the baby!" She always knew how to get you to laugh.

I am truly humbled and honored to have been a part of her life. A kinder woman will not be found, as Elaine had so much room and love in her heart for all she held dear to her. I was definitely blessed to have been one of those fortunate people in her life. Elaine, thank you for sharing your family and most of all, yourself with me and my family. We love you and are beyond heartbroken to have to say goodbye. Rest in peace beautiful lady, and give'em a run for their money up above!
The heavens have truly gained a magnificent angel.

All of our love now and forever,
Rich, Lorraine, Matt and Jacalyn
