Louis J. Dietz
July 28, 1943 - January 22, 2022
Affectionately known to his family as “Sonny” growing up, Louie attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help and was a graduate of Lindenhurst High School.
Lou graduated from the Naval School of Music in Washington D.C. He then served aboard Navy ships including the USS Kitty Hawk and was honorably discharged in 1967.
Lou was hired into the Mechanical department as a Car Cleaner at Long Island Rail Road. He was promoted first to Electrician then to the supervisory positions of Gang Foreman in 1968 and General Foreman in 1976. He retired as a Transportation Manager in the Transportation department with a career spanning almost 30 years.
From 1965 to 1988, Lou was a Bay Constable for Town of Babylon retiring as Sergeant Bay Constable. He was a volunteer with the Bay Rats Fire House and participated on the racing team.
Lou held a number of positions in The Incorporated Village of Lindenhurst on the Planning board and retired as Director of Development.
He was very active in both the Lindenhurst Village Republican Committee having served as Chairman and with the Babylon Town Republican Committee as Vice Chairman.
Lou served as a Member - Metropolitan Transportation Authority Inspector General Management Advisory Board and was a Member — Council for SUNY College at Old Westbury. He also served on the Suffolk County Planning Board.
In his spare time, Lou became a Travel Agent and was passionate about cruising.
Lou was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
