Obituary for Margaret Therese McKay
Margaret Therese McKay (nee Lanigan) passed peacefully and surrounded by family on 6/12/2023 at the age of 91 at home in West Islip, NY, after a long illness. Marge was born in Corona, NY on January 24, 1932.
Marge married fellow Queens native Raymond T McKay on 9/13/1952, and they made their home in Copiague, NY. Marge was very active in the community, especially with various youth sports organizations. She worked for the Copiague School District, both at Great Neck Rd Elementary and O’Connell High School. Marge and Ray moved to Palm Coast, FL in 1990. There, Marge enjoyed the ocean, golfing, and a close circle of friends. Always dedicated to her community, she was a member of several civic organizations. She was predeceased by Ray on 10/11/2012.
Marge is survived by her children Raymond T McKay Jr (Ellen) of West Islip, NY, Sharon Connolly (Stephen) of West Islip, NY, John McKay (Janice) of Lake Grove, NY, and Patrick McKay (Peg) of Annapolis, MD, as well as grandchildren Kelly Connolly, Stephen J Connolly, Sean McKay, Katie McKay, Ryan McKay, Matthew McKay, Marissa McKay, Brigid McKay and Maggie McKay. She was also loving GG to Brian and Danica Hickey, and Luca and Max McKay.
A wake will be held at Lindenhurst Funeral Home on Wednesday, 06/21/2023 from 6 to 9pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, at 9:30 a.m. at St Joseph Catholic Church (in Babylon) followed by her interment at Long Island National Cemetery.
