Her dedication to her church and family served as an inspiration to all who knew her. Her passion, love, and determination served as an example for living a life of excellence through service in the community and trust in God. Mary was a co-founder of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Babylon, NY, and was active in all ministries most notably the Parish Council, Choir, and Philoptochos. While residing in New York, she served her local church as both President of the local parish council, and Philoptochos chapter, she was then elected to serve as President of the national Philoptochos organization with chapters in North and South America. In 2003 Mary moved to Virginia Beach joining the Virginia Beach St Nicholas Greek Orthodox community family. Mary was respected and revered for her leadership and for all her accomplishments through her service to Jesus Christ.

Pre-deceased by her husband of 40 years, George Gabriel, having immigrated from Kastoria, Greece/Morphou, Cyprus, together they had three children, Evelyn(Steve), George(Maureen), and Nick(Brian). Mary poured into her family and was prouder than a mother could be at all they would accomplish. Besides their professional accomplishments, Mary was beyond proud of the families they created – three grandchildren Matthew and Nicole(George), and Philip(Evelyn). Continuing to grow the family, Matthew(Teresa) would go on to give Mary three great-grandchildren Eva, Layla, and Luke, and Nicole(Chris) would give her two more, Noelle and Hallie. Together the family grieves for the loss of their beloved matriarch.
