Robert J. Little

July 29th, 1938 ~ November 1st, 2022 (84)

“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” - Psalm 118. The above Psalm was one of Roberts favorites.

Robert J. Little sadly passed away peacefully from complications of a long illness, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family on November 1st, All Saints Day at 7:00 AM at his home.

Robert was born and raised in Lindenhurst, New York. In his youth Robert was surrounded by 3 generations of family living under one roof, which molded him to value family life, prayer and learning respect from a very young age.

Robert was predeceased by His parents Robert and Evelyn, elder sister Patricia, brothers Richard and Lewis. He is survived by the youngest, his sister Mary Lou Bartsch, his wife Margaret (One and Only of 58 years), his daughters - Rosemary and Jacqueline, his sons - Robert Andrew and Matthew, Grandchildren - Christopher and Victoria.

Bob and Margie lived in Commack where they raised their 4 children.

Robert’s friends called him Bob.

As a young adult, he was a dancer in two Dayton Power and Light staged musicals.

Bob graduated the University of Dayton Ohio and served in the Marine Corps.

His greatest achievement were his children.

Bob was invested in volunteer work as well as the Church. Bob was reserved but became the life of the party with a great sense of humor when enjoying time with family and friends. He loved socializing. His children often referred to him as “The Mayor” as he spoke to people along his walking route. Bob enjoyed hobbies and collectibles with many creative talents where he shared his love of both with his family and relished their interest in them.

The family was united during Holy days that were celebrated over a Rosary after dinners, instilling the relevance in daily life honoring the Lord. Prayer and church life was monumentally important to Bob, where he led by example.

He was devoted to his children. He made a memorable Halloween costume for his son to wear to school, made a go cart, constructed play areas as well as taking interest in their endeavors.

Bob had a big heart and appreciation for animals. Bob could not turn down adopting a dog for his pleading children, welcoming kittens, fish, parakeets and ferrets into the home.

Bob enjoyed his children made sure they had things that engage a child’s imagination and play time. Taking the family on many outings and memorable camping trips.

Devoting many hours to manicuring and tending to home gardens Bob designed appealing landscapes for family and people to enjoy.

Bob and his wife were Eucharistic ministers.

Bob was a Charter Member of the Commack Ambulance Corps and Committee Chairman of Cub Scout pack 240. Bob was an Auxiliary Policeman in Smithtown and Lindenhurst.

Bob was a life member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help - Knights of Columbus as well as reached the level of 4th Degree Knight.

Bob was President of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Holy Name Society.

In retirement years, in addition to his many interests, Bob was sacristan at Christ the King Church in Commack and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, in Lindenhurst which he considered a privilege. He valued those positions and would often quote, “I must be about my Fathers business”.

Bob was loved and will be sorely missed.
