Obituary for Sigfrido "Vinny" Aponte

Sigfrido “Vinny” Aponte, 78, passed on Wednesday, May 26,2021 at Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Vinny was born on October 19, 1942 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico to the late Julio Cesar Aponte and Guillermina (Acevedo) Aponte. He was the third of six children. When Vinny was young, his family moved from Puerto Rico to the Bronx. That is where he attended school and met the love of his life, Miriam (Ocasio) Aponte.
Vinny and Miriam were married October 26, 1963 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. Two children were born from this union, Sigfrido Jr. and Edwin. The family of four moved to Copiague, NY in 1976. Vinny worked as a General Manager at a valet parking company in Manhattan for many years. He also was an over the road truck driver.
Vinny loved to fish. He had two boats and would love to take his family out fishing. He enjoyed smoking his cigars and he loved dancing, especially to salsa music. He always had his conga out ready to play. Most importantly, he loved spending quality time with his family. He was a loving and caring person, devoted husband, father and grandfather, always thinking of others first.
Vinny is survived by his wife, Miriam, two sons, Sigfrido Jr. and Edwin; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
