Obituary for Thomas Joseph Curry

Tom Curry, 82, of Lindenhurst NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Tom was born on May 7, 1941. He grew up in Valley Stream, New York and lived in Lindenhurst, NY with his family for most of his adult life.

Tom was a beloved and loving husband to his late wife of 47 years, Lorraine Curry, son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Curry, loving Father to Thomas Curry, David Curry and Eileen Carty; doting and loving Grandfather to Sarah and Abigail Curry, Rohan, Anya and Maya Curry, Giovanni Oberst and Ethan, Mairead and Addison Carty. Tom is survived by his sibling, Kevin Curry, and was the brother of his late siblings, Robert and Richard Curry; and by many nieces, nephews, friends, athletes, teachers and others he touched throughout his life.

Tom Curry was a long time teacher and coach and member of the church. He met his wife, Lorraine, at St. John the Baptist High School in 1967, where they both were employed. He taught math at Copiague High School for over 2 decades and ran their Cross Country and Track Program to many successful championships. Tom was a member and volunteer at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church of Lindenhurst, as well as the Knights of Columbus of Lindenhurst. Tom was a Lindenhurst Code Enforcement Officer for many years and worked as a bailiff for the Court of the Village of Lindenhurst.

All who knew Tom knew his love for the Brooklyn Dodgers, specifically Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale, his children and grandchildren, and the many friends and colleagues from his teaching and days of working for the Village of Lindenhurst. Tom loved to recount his days at court and the characters he met when patrolling the village. He found a true family and friends at his jobs, who visited him often upon his retirement.

Tom was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. He was very proud of his family and grandchildren, and loved to hear updates on their varied and many sports and school accomplishments. Tom was best known for his amazing wit, generosity, affability and kindness. He will be dearly missed.

Friends are welcome to gather at Lindenhurst Funeral Home on Sunday, December 3rd from 3-6pm at 424 South Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst, NY. Mass will be held at OLPH Church in Lindenhurst on Monday, December 4th at Wellwood Ave at 9:45am Lindenhurst, NY.
