Obituary for William J. "Bill" Byron

William Byron on June 17, 2020. He was the loving husband of the late Mary (nee Walsh). Devoted father of Joanne (Jim), Jim (Karen), John (Lynne), Carol (Dave), Dave (Oksana) and Maureen (Tom) and the late Frances. Cherished Grandfather of Meg, Michael, Kristen, Sean (Jansen), Kayla (Brandon), Travis, Jenna (Mike), Matt, Allison, Laura, Katie, Jackie (Eddie) and Danny. Beloved Great Grandfather of Easton, Rivers and Fenley. Dear Brother-in Law of Sister Kathryn Walsh. Loving Uncle of Kathleen Catalano & cousins of George and Desiree Munson.

Bill served his country in the Pacific during WWII in the Army’s First Calvary. He was an influential Boy Scout leader in his hometown of Queens Village, NY where he raised his family. Bill was a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC in Lindenhurst, NY as well as their Sacristan for many years. In later years he and his wife Mary moved to Eagleview Retirement Community in Middle Island, NY where he became a Food Pantry volunteer at St. Francis of Cabrini RC. He was a Fourth Degree member of their Knights of Columbus chapter.
During his time in Middle Island he volunteered at the Veterans Hospital in Stony Brook, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00am on Monday, June 22 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lindenhurst, NY followed by a private internment at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.

In lieu of flowers, tree donations, heart felt sympathies and candle purchases, the family is asking donations to be made to St. Francis Cabrini Food Pantry, 134 Middle Country Rd, Coram, NY 11727.
